Overview
|
|
The Youth Hostel “Begeinhof” is located on the South edge of Tongeren. Being the oldest town in Belgium, Tongeren has a lot to offer. You can visit numerous historic remains and buildings. Definitely worth a visit, is the Gallo-Roman museum which truly takes you on a trip to the past. The hostel name “Begeinhof” refers to the beguinage, located at the back door of the hostel. The scenery is colourful and picturesque, comprising a charming city centre that preserved it’s medieval layout with cosy streets and squares, comfy pubs and romantic boulevards. In short, the ideal mix of nature, culture and relaxation. The “Begeinhof” offers a well tended accommodation and budget friendly sleeping facilities to 76 people. Individuals as well as groups, youngsters as well as adults are welcome. The hostel has easy access for wheel chair users. At a distance of 100 m is the recreation area “De Motten” with sports grounds and large playground. The surroundings of Tongeren are also worth a visit. If you’re interested in castles and moat, then do take a tour of ‘s Herenelderen, Rooi and Widooie. Perhaps even more mystic are the ruins of Kolmont castle in Overrepen. Believe it or not, but far away from the major cities you can discover the Art Nouveau wonders of the former chocolate factory and annexe managers residence in Nerem. |
